Use your email marketing campaign to offer customers a personal perspective of your business. Tell a story about how you got started and why you are passionate about your business while giving them a special promotion or offer. It will build trust in your clients and make them more apt to make a purchase from you.

If your business has branded previous customer communications, make sure that your email marketing campaign is consistent with that branding. Use your existing color scheme and logo in every message that is sent. Your reputation will carry over into the content of the emails being received by your customers as they will immediately be able to know that it has come from your company.

Have an exit strategy for customers that stop responding to your mailings. If a customer is no longer interested in the products you have to sell, they’re going to be irritated and even angered by continued contact. Determine a number of messages or a length of time that you’ll keep sending messages, then if the customer doesn’t respond, remove them from your mailing list.

Write your message copy with benefits in mind, but not yours. Make sure your messages reflect the benefits that your content, products or services are offering your subscribers and readers. They want to know what is in it for them before they commit to the call to action, which is where your benefit happens.

Do not depend on images too much. Images can enhance the look of an email; however, the information in your message should be readable, even if the images are not displayed. Many clients will disable images from new email senders for security reasons. You need to ensure that your message will come across clearly whether they see the images or not.

You can follow up with your customers by sending them an email and including a coupon for future purchases. Make sure a link is included that allows clients to view the coupon. You could end the email by telling them to watch for your future emails, which may also contain deals.
